London, July 11 (IANS) Sir Richard Branson Wednesday announced that he and his children will be the first passengers when the Virgin Galactic space tourism programme begins next year, the Daily Mail reported.
Branson, son Sam and daughter Holly are expected to be flying about 96 km up into space on the SpaceShipTwo (SS2) aircraft by the end of next year.
On Wednesday, he joined around 120 other tourists who have signed up for the two-hour flights, at 128,000 pounds a trip.
A total of 529 guests, including, it is believed, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, have already signed up for the trip.
The SS2 will be launched from a spaceport in New Mexico built by British architect Lord Foster.
