Arjun Singh ahead in Toyota-IGU Southern India junior golf

Bangalore, June 1 (IANS) Arjun Singh from Dhaula Kuan Army Golf Course emerged sole leader in the combined under-14 and under-18 categories after three rounds in the Toyota-IGU Southern India juniors golf tournament at the KGA course here Thursday.

With a total score of 223 (77-75-71) at the end of 54 holes, Singh was one stroke ahead of ITC Classic Golf Resort's Shubhankar Sharma while Aman Raj (Patna Golf Club) and Piyush Sangwan (DLF Golf and Country Club) were tied for the third position with a total score of 225.

The 18-year-old Arjun Singh, who was brilliant in patches over the first two days, played a consistently good game on the penultimate day of the tournament, carding a one under par 71 to take the lead.

Local hope Yashas Chandra from Mysore, who had snatched the lead on day 1, scored an 8-over 80 on the third day for a total score of 232, putting him in the 10th position at the end of 54 holes.

"I played some pretty good shots today. I made two bogeys initially, but I covered up with birdies in the first nine holes and also had a good back nine score," Arjun said.
